Honestly, I can't say I've looked forward to a vacation more than this one. The last time I found myself in Mexico I has just been fired. That was far from relaxing and no matter how strong my support system was there was very little that could be done for me to actually drop my guard and enjoy myself. There isn't much in my life that has affected me like getting canned. It sucked. And since then there have been short trips here and there but nothing that would constitute a true vacation. And this time I left behind a job that could hardly bear to let me go away for 8 days. What a difference. Times always get better. And this one is going to be one for the books.

Sometimes I wonder if the collective we is the dumbest guy in the room.

Yesterday the "breaking" news was all about how Obama is caving on
dramatically slashing social security benefits of old folks (no doubt
because the death panels aren't going to take care of all of them
quickly enough). Today, the story is all about how Obama is sending
his apoplectic minions out to walk back the political timebomb created
by what was a poorly sourced story about slashing that was in reality
about being willing to talk about cuts but that slashing is most
definitely off the table.

And, the collective heads are spinning. Wolf Blitzer just ate his
beard, Roger Ailes is still on the floor after suffering a shock
induced stroke after Thursday's breaking news and Jon Stewart just
extended his vacation for another week so the youth vote doesn't get
wind of this fiasco. Pelosi was blindsided! The AARP is admantaly
against any cuts to social security benefits. Bernie Sanders wants
Vermont to secede. Arizona is still Arizona (Gratuitous. I know).

It should be a no brainer to get a social security "cut" thrown in
with a debt limit deal now that you've stirred the ire of the media,
old folks and political allies.

Oh. Wait. I forgot -- POTUS probably isn't smart enough to know
that's exactly what would happen.

I, like a lot of people around the world Sunday night, witnessed something more than a decade in the making. Something that was both real and poetic justice too long denied. A confluence of luck, sheer guts, terrifying work laid on the shoulders of young men and women willing to give their lives for us, and a monumental financial cost. "We Got Him". Vengeance was sweet, and well deserved. And I slept like a baby, guiltless and sated.

As a Country, we waited with impatiently baited breath that never wavered to bring closure to something that has done more to tear us apart as a people than it ever did to bring us together, save the rose colored view of fleeting first days of grief induced oneness. One man dead: symbolic of the scatter-shot hatred visited upon us and that we so willingly sprayed back randomly in the face of our sometimes impotent attempts to find justice and closure in anything that could serve to heal despite knowing only one thing would really close the wound.

All hope for a better world having left him long long ago, he was ended, a vacant corpse of nothing and hate that now fills our minds and souls with the semblance of peace we've needed for too long.

He died a coward. At OUR guiltless hand.

What the hell is wrong with you, Some Of White America? Have you lost all damn decency? Have you come to a point in our country’s history where black is not merely white but an amalgamation of all that is wrong with the world? Have you lost the ability to call it as you see it – actually and not in terms of what you see through racism, sexism, hatred, righteousness and divisiveness? You are not post-racial. You are not conservative or liberal. You are not our brothers’ keepers. And you are most certainly not faithful to the teachings of peacemakers, poets or the religious beliefs you hide behind. These are your failures and they hinder your ability to think clearly and understand one another for who you are rather than what you say you stand for.

You, in your desperate national pursuit of social-and-political-policy-one-ups-manship have accomplished exactly nothing in the last five decades that could marginally be described as aiding in the forming a more perfect union. Our union is ever more divided – because of you. Our perfection is split by your cacophonous guttural and irrational screams for justice and equality in the form you envision it for your selves – not your neighbors (all of them). And I’m a little fucking tired of it.

If you think I’m just ranting, that’s fine. I do that. But if you open your eyes (WIDE) for a moment, say I’m wrong. Can you look to what is no longer marginal radical political and social commentary creeping into the fabric of the mainstream and say to me, it’s nothing. It’ll go away. It’s just the ranting of a few with a marginal and insignificant grasp of power? Are you able to comprehend how much you are willing to set back the progress of a nation to soothe the political wound of having to answering to a black man?

Anyone who’s read anything I’ve ever written knows where I come from. I’m left wing, pro-choice, liberal, possibly socialist, all too often more than willing to lead with my heart than my brain, and am unapologetic for every bit of it. But at least I can listen to you and your insanity and call it as it is, not as I see it.

And, for the record, up is not down because you say it is. Mostly, it’s the way it is because you’re a racist asshole.

There's a long list of things that frustrate me. Aside from the average day-to-day things like getting out of bed as part of the deal to get paid, the fact that DADT still exists is one of them.

Started as a policy that was supposed to mollify ignorant people who think their just and righteous God is going to strike down the sodomites come Judgment Day, the policy became a weapon. Which is fitting since the military is as adept at using things to end you the same way MacGyver manages to cross the space time continuum with a hiccup and handful of belly-lint.

So here we are today. A non-mollified-God-fearing-nation still waiting for the strike down, military leadership willing to accept the prospect of hot gay barrack sex as a recruiting tool, a Congress divided just enough to be nearly useless and a President that generally seems destined to frustrate the hell out of just about everybody and unwilling to allow anyone but Congress to undo what clearly John McCain has no idea should be undone.

But, surprisingly there's a distinctly non-socialist, even-handed, leading-by-leading and non-dictatorial side to what Obama is doing. One stroke of Obama's glorious executive pen (racist sexual pun intended) could undo it. But instead, he waits. Patiently. For us to come to consensus. On our own. About what may be a significant social issue for some (on either side). And he waits. Patiently. Because progress isn't made with the stoke of his pen. It's made when the Freedom he protects is protected for all (even the douche-bags). And debate. And open discussion that ultimately lends itself to someone else taking credit for the good thing that will happen.
